The public is invited to the 8th Annual Open Your Heart Breakfast on Tuesday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Best Western Plus-University Inn, 1516 West Pullman Road, Moscow.
Michael Largent will speak about the influence Gritman Adult Day Health has had on his father, a participant at ADH. Dr. Elise Augenstein of Palouse Psychiatry will speak about the psychological effects of care giving.
Organized by Gritman Adult Day Health, the free event benefits the "Helping Hands Fund," which provides hours of care for at-risk adults who cannot otherwise afford the program.
Since August 2001, Gritman Adult Day Health has provided skilled nursing care, restorative rehabilitation and case management for at-risk adults and seniors. Program participants come from both Latah and Whitman counties.
The Helping Hands Fund started in 2003 when Adult Day Health staff identified a need for people on fixed incomes to utilize the program.
Most regular medical insurance does not pay for such care, although Washington and Idaho Medicaid, the Veterans Administration and some long term care policies do. The Open Your Heart Breakfast, grants, memorial donations and other fundraising events contribute to the Helping Hands Fund.
Since 2005 the fund has provided more than $73,000 to meet participant adult day health needs.
There is no charge for the breakfast but donations will be encouraged at the end of the program. Please RSVP for the breakfast by calling (208) 883-6018 by May 4.
