Gritman Medical Center reaches 93 percent flu vaccination rate
Gritman Medical Center has attained a 93 percent vaccination rate among employees for this year's flu virus, which hospital officials say is a remarkably high percentage.
"As a hospital, our top priority is improving patient safety," said Sheryl Washburn, chief nursing officer at Gritman. "After a focused campaign to vaccinate employees, we are pleased with the results and we will shoot for an even higher rate next year."
According to the Centers for Disease Control, seasonal flu kills tens of thousands of people a year and sickens many more. The Joint Commission, which accredits most hospitals in America, has set a 2016 goal for hospitals to reach 90 percent vaccination. Nationwide, it's estimated about 40 percent of adults are vaccinated against the flu.
