Gritman Medical Center to host Kendrick Pharmacy Open House

MOSCOW — Gritman Medical Center will host an open house for the grand opening of a new tele-pharmacy in Kendrick on April 5, 2018, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 509 E. Main Street.

Tele-pharmacy allows the pharmacy to distribute medications and provide patient consultations with a pharmacist via telecommunication technology. The program is monitored and regulated by the State Board of Pharmacy. Without a nearby pharmacy, residents of Kendrick would be forced to drive more than 20 miles to fill a prescription.

The pharmacy is a partnership between Gritman Medical Center and Idaho State University College of Pharmacy’s, Bengal Pharmacy. Bengal Pharmacy has seen success in two other rural communities in Idaho: Challis and Arco.

“We value the wellbeing of the community and feel the pharmacy is an essential part of health care in Kendrick,” said Kara Besst, CEO of Gritman Medical Center. “We are pleased to be partnering with Bengal Pharmacy to provide an important service.”

The pharmacy will be staffed with a pharmaceutical technologist and ISU pharmacy residents, with video supervision by a licensed pharmacist. Clients receive medication prepared under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, and can receive a private consultation with the pharmacist via video conferencing or telephone.

Gritman cares greatly for the Kendrick and Juliaetta communities and is committed to providing access to health care services.
